This is very cool. I love the vortex effect, and the star at the center only enhances it. Bravo.

you even remember the reflection in the water...nice..

at first it seemed to lack a sense of depth, as if the vortex thingy was just pasted there and hardly interacting with the surroundings, i dunno. or maybe its my PSed brain telling me that its a distort filter applied to a picture(i lack imagination). the most effective part is in the bottom left of it(where the most cloud is getting sucked in), which regained my appreciation.

i think it would add an even more dramatic feel if you cropped it about 1/5 to 1/4 from the top tip of the the vortex. this makes it darker overall and gives a better illustration of the doomed atmosphere i think u want.

too add more depth, maybe you can show light fading very subtly from the edge of the vortex going pitch black in the centre(a spherical gradient?).
or make the vortex angular(no idea how) but you would have to compensate for this: for instance, if the "face" of the vortex was tilted slightly to the ground, you would have to show how the space above it bends and eventually gets sucked in along with the rest of it around the edges.

overall, i like the concept, especially LOVE the colour scheme, the subtleties such as the granular effect on the water and the clouds are blended well.

are you being sarcastic?

I'm not very good at PS(ie. not professional...yet)
I don't think I'll succeed but I could/would like to try. Can you upload it to a location then note the URL to me? if you can't then don't bother, it's still a cool photo manip!

another idea that occured to me is the use of the spherize tool to create depth.
